5/3/2010 UPDATE!!!!

I was able to get some work done on the Koa Top TBM bass this weekend. I was able to get the neck pocket routed out and it fits like a glove. I will have to make a peace of wood to go in the pocket to build it back up, so the neck will not sit to deep in the pocket. I also got the f-board milled down to final thickness and I am ready to start the fret slots. This is about all I was able to do this week because I need to get more parts in to move forward. I was able to order everything today to finish the bass and I hope to have everything by this weekend so I can get somemore work done. You will also see a picture of the TBM template for a five or more string bass body. Well I hope you like what you see and until next time. Play On!

  1. Found it! this Koa looks great! and I just love how the body shape and the head stock fit together. Perhaps I would have chosen a Maple fingerboard because I love the contrast i see in this pix. But that's just me. And it's going to look fantastic! Any head stock veneer? man, you've got to finish this fast!! :)

  2. Mau, I have never been a fan of Maple boards until recent but I just could not bring myself to do it on this one. I may do it on my next MG-1/jazz style bass I build. since I did the traditional Fender style headstock where it rounds up to the nut I am going to leave it maple. I also did not have any extra Koa to make a head cap for it. I had origianly made another neck for this bass with a Koa cap and tilted back headstock but the neck was to narrow at the 24th frett. So I have since made this neck which I am liking a lot more and wanted to go with that Wal style headstock. Thanks for the comments.
