My latest offering MG-1 4 string

This is my first post of which I hope there will be many more. I have just completed my latest design the MG-1, pictured above. This bass has turned out to be more than I could have hoped for. This is a first of many for me on this bass. I normaly build 24 fret tilt back head stock basses with figured woods through out. As of the last few years I have been more into what you see here.

This is the first time doing this style of bass as well as wood selections. The body is Poplar, neck Maple, F-board Rosewood. I hear a lot of people say things about using Poplar but I will tell you it is as good as anything out there. This is going to be my standard model and wood choices from here on out, that is how much I like this set-up. The Pick-ups are single coil wound to vintage specs. The electronics are passive (the only way to go) Volume/Volume/Tone. This is also the first Nitro finish I have done and I will not use anything else from now on.

Let me know your thoughts and I will try and post a sound clip of the bass as well. I will also post pictures of a bass I am building now and pictures of this bass under construction.

  1. Hey John, I dropped by to see if there was something new and I noticed one detail I missed last time - the headstock of your J. That's one more thing our projects share ;) Did you do that only for aesthetic reasons or just as homage to M-Man.. Or...?
I like your new bass too, nice body shape and great wood choice. cool!
